RELIGION AND SCIENCE IN IDEOLOGICAL CONFLICTS: A REFLECTION

Abstract

Religion is the belief in a spiritual and metaphysical reality which has the ability to proffer solutions to human problems via rituals and practices pertaining to the belief. While science is the knowledge of a particular discipline especially one dealing with measurability or systematic principles rather than intuition or natural ability. It is imperative to understand that humans have great quest for knowledge and also notoriously religious. Considerations are given to the definition of religion and science as two main concepts in this research. It strides to view Western approach on religion and science, African view on religion and science, divergent views of religion and science on creation, divergent views of religion and science on abortion, divergent views of religion and science on healthcare, divergent views of religion and science on sexuality and divergent views of religion and science on contraception. The researchers focus on ideological conflict between religion and science. This research made use of historical method as well as books, journals and internet sources and recommends that the ideological conflict amongst religion and science should come under ideological tolerance for harmonious living between practitioners of these disciplines.
