FOREIGN MOVIES, TERRORISM AND MORAL DECADENCE IN NIGERIA: 24EXAMINED
This paper focuses on how the high and uncensored consumption of foreign movies and their impact on the Nigerian society as it adopted the seasons one and two of the film series, 24 as our primary data. This is watched and analyzed in view of the heavy and detailed presence of shades of terrorism and the violent tendencies inherent in the film series matched with those tendencies seen cultivated by Nigerians in recent years after the release of the film. For proper evaluation, the study is guided using cultivation and aggressive cue theory, as it shows how aggressive and violent cues are cultivated and how the cultivated violent and moral decadence is visible in almost all aspects of the Nigerian society. The researchers recommend that the country should evolve blue prints in philosophy, ethics, morals, language, culture and religious ideological stances that will address the collective identity and aspirations which must be the yardstick for approving both foreign and locally produced films into the Nigerian market space. Until this is wholesomely achieved, peace and tranquility may continue to elude Nigeria and indeed Nigerians through the ‘unguided’ film contents.
